Episode 8 opens with Goodwin introducing Dr. Justin Leo to the Chicago Med staff as the “latest member of emergency medicine.” For the past decade, Justin, a permanent employee in his first year, has specialized in search and rescue.
Our first crossover occurs when Chicago Fire player Blake Gallo pays Justin a surprise visit. On Justin’s first day, Gallo mentions that he had planned to drop by to say hello if he was in the neighborhood. The two new doctors at Chicago Med, Blake, and Justin, indicate that they are already fast friends by giving each other a friendly fist bump. The advent of a new patient causes tension between the closest friends, but Justin will emerge as a critical player and new protagonist in the following episodes.
After getting drunk at a warehouse party, a young woman named Gloria shows up at Gaffney Medical, where Drs. Hannah Asher and Nellie Cuevas are already dealing with a dire situation. Since the woman is convinced that she has been assaulted, Hannah and Nellie work together to assemble a rape kit for her. Because of the potential for medical costs and the fact that the process is being recorded, Gloria becomes exceptionally suspicious. Nellie and Hannah do their best to calm Gloria’s fears, but it’s clear that there’s still something between them.

Results from the rape test indicate that Gloria was the victim of a sexual assault, and possible fingerprints were located at the scene. Despite Nellie’s recommendation that she get mental health support, Gloria insists she wants to go home. Although Hannah urges Gloria to report the assault to the police, Gloria refuses, saying that no one else could have seen it and that she wouldn’t be able to pursue charges anyhow. When Nellie comes along, Hannah tries to get Gloria to report the attack, but she is interrupted. Nellie informs Gloria that she will soon receive her discharge papers.
Later, Hailey Upton of Chicago P.D., with a client named Chelsea, foots the bill for an appointment at Gaffney Medical. Upton waves Hannah off and tells her she needs to investigate a possible rape. Since Chelsea entered the area after passing out at a warehouse party in Pilsen, the likelihood of being attacked by Gloria is high.
