Sweet Magnolias Season 3: Netflix has greenlit season three of Sweet Magnolias. And with the cliffhanger we were left on, this is precisely the thing we needed to hear.
Executive producer Dan Paulson, quoted in the renewal announcement, said, “We’re pleased to be commencing on our third season for Netflix, and we’re looking forward to returning to Serenity.”
JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley, among others in the cast, helped spread the word by posting about it on Instagram.
If you’re up-to-date on Sweet Magnolias, you know that Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen all have some significant choices to make that will likely have far-reaching consequences for the residents of Serenity.
The endless margaritas have been a lifesaver in helping them work things out.
The three are doing their best to deal with the challenges of love and life in their sleepy little town with the white picket fences.
But after a cliffhanger that could have far-reaching consequences for everyone, let’s have a drink and talk about what to look forward to in the next season.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Potential Release Date: When’s It Back?
Season three of Sweet Magnolias was officially greenlit in May 2022 via social media posts from the show’s writer’s room.
They only had to put the words on paper “Y’all, we’re returning to the peaceful town of Serenity. We are ecstatic to announce that production on Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias has begun. Look forward to seeing you all back at my place.”
Production on the new episodes kicked off on July 18, and the cast and crew celebrated by posting a photo of a floral arrangement on the backs of their directors’ chairs.
“‘Shall we begin?’ they penned. “We are overjoyed to be able to welcome everyone back to Serenity for the first day of filming Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias!”
Based on this, we may assume they will be finished within the next few months. We’ll be on the lookout and report to you if we see anything.
It is currently unknown when the females will return to our screens. The fact that the premiere dates of the first two seasons were so different makes it difficult to make an informed prediction as well.
In May 2020, the first season premiered, and in February 2022, season two was released (this was largely down to pushbacks caused by the pandemic).
A presentation like this, which has little special effects, usually takes between nine months and a year to produce. Thus, we shouldn’t hold our breath for new episodes of Sweet Magnolias to premiere in the spring of 2023.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Cast: Who Will Be In It?
JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Maddie Townsend), Brooke Elliot (Dana Sue Sullivan), and Heather Headley (the other magnolias) are essential to the success of Sweet Magnolias (Helen Decatur). We expect everyone to come back as planned.
All three of their offspring, played by Carson Rowland, Logan Allen, and Anneliese Judge’s Annie, will return.
A philandering Chris Klein Bill had less of a presence in season 2, but he still affected the key characters, so he will probably make an appearance or two if only to check in on his many, many children.
Jamie Lynn Spears, who plays new mom Noreen, has also announced she’ll be back by posting photographs from her dressing room on the first day of production with the comment, “It’s giving #Season3.”
The blonde actress had previously teased the return of her character Noreen by posting a photo of herself with brown hair.
Maddie’s on-again, off-again husband Ronnie, played by Brandon Quinn, had a redemptive arc in the second season and was welcomed back into the family home. You can probably count on him to make a comeback, barring some extraordinary event involving a time jump from which he runs away.
Call (Justin Bruening) found himself in custody after flying off the handle as old anger issues resurfaced. At the same time, young Isaac (Chris Medlin) has just found his feet after searching for his birth parents in Serenity, so it would be surprising if he suddenly disappeared without warning.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Plot: What Will Happen?
Sweet Magnolias’ JoAnna Garcia Swisher told ET earlier this year that season three would pick up “close to where we left off,” adding, “I don’t think you can come back months later and say, ‘Whatever happened with Helen?’ and ‘Is Justin in jail?’ Why not go big or go home?”
Even before season 3 was officially confirmed, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson didn’t hide the fact that she was hoping for more time with the gang in the future. Especially when a dubious character from Dana Sue’s past keeps popping up to cause trouble.
In the second season finale, Dana Sue’s daughter Annie was confronted by an unknown woman at Mrs. Francis’s wake, who called her mother a “life ruiner.” A camera phone later filmed the same woman slashing the tires of the Sullivan’s delivery van, bringing the episode to a close.
Maddy, Dana Sue, and Helen recognized her on the video and exclaimed, “She’s back.”
“I will just say she has a past in common with our ladies and some other folks in town,” showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told TVLine of the unnamed woman.
“After a long absence, she has returned—but this time, she brings a plan. For some unfinished business, she returned to her hometown.

But Dana Sue is just the beginning; the season finale ended on a nail-biter when ex-boyfriend Ryan proposed to Helen. He has forced her to choose between him and her new love, Erik.
‘I could see her going either way and of course, they don’t tell me,’ Headley told TVLine. They’re afraid that I’ll spill all the beans on Netflix if they give me a bowl of mac and cheese.
After losing his job as a high school coach, Cal’s anger management problems surfaced, leading to a fight at Sullivan’s that ended with Cal being carted off by the police.
“In a potential third season, it’s certainly something Cal needs to unpack and examine whether he has handled past events properly, why he lost it when not losing it is so important to him, and what choices he can make going forward,” Sheryl told Entertainment Weekly. To benefit “not only himself, but those he cares about as well.”
To top it all off, there’s the local recall election, and the persistent suggestion that Maddie should be the one to replace the Mayor if he loses.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Trailer: Is There One Yet?
No release date has been announced, so we may have to wait a while for more footage. It will be a while before we can see any results, as filming has just just begun.
A trailer for Season 2 of Sweet Magnolias wasn’t released until two weeks before the premiere.
