What Are The Weaknesses Of Each Pokemon Type?

Knowing the type chart can be the difference between victory and defeat in Pokémon battles, as each Pokémon and its techniques have a unique “type,” with its own set of strengths and weaknesses in attack and defense.

You can deal far more damage than usual by utilizing a Pokémon with moves that have an advantage over your opponent, and you’ll always have an advantage in battles if you use a team of mixed-type Pokémon.

Nearly all of the Gym Leaders and Elite Four have a type-specific motif to their designs, so it’s important to know what you’re up against and what sort of Pokémon you should bring into battle.

Although there are 18 unique Pokémon, it might be challenging to keep track of each one and their individual abilities and weaknesses in-game.

Why Is The Pokémon Type Chart Important?

Just as each Pokémon has a kind, each move has a type as well. For example, the Fire-type Cyndaquil from Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, SoulSilver, and Arceus can only use the Rock-type move Rollout.

Your Pokémon will take more damage from attacks that are effective against its type, and less damage from attacks that are weaker against it. The same holds true for your opponent’s assaults on your Pokémon; if you use a Fire-type Pokémon against a Water-type, for example, your Pokémon will likely lose consciousness.

You can do twice as much damage to a Grass-type Pokémon with a Fire-type attack, for example.

In contrast, if you have a double-type advantage, as a Fire-type attack against a Grass and Bug-type Pokémon, you can do four times as much damage.

Your Pokémon will take half as much damage from a Fire-type attack on a Water-type Pokémon, and you’ll get the dreaded notice “it’s not very effective” if you try to use that attack on it.

The same holds true for a double-type disadvantage; if you strike a Pokémon that is both Water and Rock type, you will only do one-fourth as much damage.

You can also use STAB (Same Kind Attack Bonus) to your advantage, which occurs when a Pokémon of the same type (such as a Fire-type Pokémon) uses a move of the same type.

When combined with the double-type advantage strategy, when a Pokémon with a Fire-type uses a Fire-type move against a Pokémon with a Grass- or Bug-type, the resulting damage is multiplied by a factor of six.
