Ryota Miyagi
Sakuragi’s best friend on the squad is Ryota Miyagi ( Miyagi Ryta). The original Slam Dunk sports manga was written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue, and ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 18, 1990, to June 4, 1996. Two hundred seventy-six chapters were published in a total of 31 books. The television anime adaptation, created by Toei Animation, aired for 101 episodes between October 1, 1993, and March 23, 1996. There are four additional films to this franchise besides the main anime series.

The protagonist, Hanamichi Sakuragi, is a short-tempered jerk who has been rejected by at least fifty women. He had been rejected by 50 different girls before he was accepted to Shohoku High School and given a second chance. He met the lovely Haruko Akagi here at school, and guess what?
Hanamichi was instantly smitten by her. She inquired as to whether or not he was interested in playing basketball for the school. Hanamichi wanted a girlfriend, and he wanted to show Haruko that he wanted one, so he went along with everything she suggested. Despite his previous aversion to the sport, Hanamichi Sakuragi will transform into a dedicated athlete at his new high school, thanks to the combination of a competitive new squad and his desire to find a girlfriend.
