Brazilian mixed martial artist Norma Dumont Viana Ferreira (born October 1, 1990) competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Featherweight division. She is ranked #15 in the UFC women’s bantamweight standings as of November 23, 2021.

Background

When Dumont was 4 years old, her father abandoned her mother and his three daughters. [Reference needed] Dumont began training in jiu-jitsu at the age of 13.  She abandoned her studies to start working as a secretary. She resumed training and carried on with her MMA career at the age of 19. She developed into a six-time state and national Sanda champion during this time.

Dumont discovered a free Muay Thai class when she started training again at the age of 19. She saw Sanda for the first time and quickly joined up after a buddy recommended she try it.

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

When Dumont began her professional career in 2016, she had a perfect 4-0 record on the local Brazilian circuit, winning two of those contests by first-round submission.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

At UFC Fight Night 169 on February 29, 2020, Dumont faced Megan Anderson in her first-ever promotional appearance. She was knocked out in the opening round of the fight. On November 28, 2020, at UFC on ESPN: Smith vs. Clark, she made her second appearance for the organisation against Ashlee Evans-Smith.

 Norma Dumont exceeded the weight limit for women’s bantamweight non-title fights by three and a half pounds at the weigh-ins, coming in at 139.5 pounds. She was fined 30% of her purse, which went to her opponent, and the fight continued at catchweight.  She received a unanimous decision victory.

On April 10, 2021, Dumont was slated to compete against Bea Malecki at UFC on ABC: Vettori vs. Holland.

 Malecki withdrew a week before the competition for unknown reasons, and Erin Blanchfield, a promotional rookie, took her place.  As a result, Dumont’s fight was dropped off the card when he missed weight by 3.5lbs.

On May 22, 2021, Dumont fought Felicia Spencer at UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Garbrandt in place of Danyelle Wolf. She prevailed in a divided judgement. On October 16, 2021, Dumont and Holly Holm were slated to square off at UFC Fight Night 195.

 On October 6, 2021, it was revealed that Aspen Ladd had to step in for Holm after the former competitor was forced to withdraw due to an injury. The fight’s short notice did not concern Dumont, who stated, “I’ve been working out for five rounds and 25 minutes nonstop. To me, that is nothing new.” Dumont prevailed by unanimous decision in the match.

On May 7, 2022, Dumont and Macy Chiasson squared off at UFC 274.

Dumont weighed in half a pound over the limit for a women’s featherweight non-title fight at 146.5 pounds at the weigh-ins. At catchweight, Dumont lost the fight to Chiasson and gave up 30% of her winnings.  Dumont was defeated by a narrow margin.

At UFC 279, Dumont took on promotional rookie Danyelle Wolf on September 10, 2022. She prevailed by unanimous decision.
