On Thursday, the second key picture for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura manga was released along with the broadcast date of October 13.

There will be no hiatuses in the anime’s half-year run, which translates to two cours (quarters). The complete anime will adapt storylines from the manga and last for four courses, or a full year, albeit the episodes will not air in order. To celebrate the centennial of manga publisher Shogakukan, the anime will air as part of the Noitamina programming block on Fuji TV and other stations.

The cast includes:

  • Kana Hanazawa as Ran
  • Katsuyuki Konishi as Rei
  • Saori Hayami as Oyuki

The director of the series is Takahiro Kamei, who previously directed episodes of Strike Witches: Road to Berlin and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind. The score was composed by Masaru Yokoyama, whose credits include Horimiya, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and the upcoming Fruits Basket (2019). Aside from myself, the other employees are:

  • Sub-Character Design: Kazuhiro TakamuraMikio

This large trim size edition of the critically renowned romantic comedy about a misfortunate human lad and a gorgeous alien princess features all new translations and cover graphics. All of Ataru Moroboshi’s strange meetings with women begin when an extraterrestrial princess named Lum invades Earth in her spaceship and picks him to play tag.

Ten days from now, if Ataru doesn’t touch Lum’s horns, aliens will conquer Earth. It seems that Ataru’s run-ins with supernatural beings, such as the lovely snow spirit Oyuki and the sultry crow goblin Princess Kurama, are only the beginning of his problems, and that the game of tag was just the beginning!

From 1978 until 1987, the manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. An earlier portion of the series was localized by Viz Media in the 1990s under the titles Lum and The Return of Lum.

Several anime films and an original video animation (OVA) series were produced based on the manga, which aired on television from 1981 to 1986.

Previous anime home video releases were handled by AnimEigo, with the exception of Central Park Media’s Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer. Discotek Media has started reissuing the films after the original licences for these firms lapsed.
