Guardians Of The Galaxy 3: The third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release in May of 2018, but fans won’t have to wait that long to see the misfit team of heroes again.
The Guardians will be back on Disney+ on November 25 for a holiday special that will take place on Earth and may or may not include a long-dead character.
James Gunn, co-head of DC Films with Peter Safran, has stated that the upcoming Holiday Special is a “standalone story,” though it will address some lingering plot holes. The extent to which it will include sneak peeks at the upcoming third film is unknown at this time.
The third film’s trailer was shown for the first time at Comic-Con, and those lucky enough to be there also got confirmations about some of the film’s new characters that have yet to make their way online.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Release Date
Marvel has confirmed that the release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be May 5, 2023, so the countdown has begun.
After all that, on November 25 we’ll get a Holiday Special on Disney+ that will introduce “one of the greatest MCU characters of all time,” as previously stated. (We get the impression Gunn was hinting at a Kevin Bacon appearance in the trailer.)
While filming, the threequel surpassed The Grinch for “the most makeup appliances created for a single production,” which is now a Guinness World Record.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Cast
Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Star-Lord, and the rest of the original cast, including Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis, will also be back. Zoe Saldana will reprise her role as Gamora following the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Saldaa has stated that she wants to “explore a bad Gamora” in the third Guardians film, though the teaser trailers have made it seem like the character’s arc is less one of villainy and more one of insensitivity. She has been dropping hints about the plot of the sequel and it sounds like we’ll need tissues.
“There’s a lot of sadness, but there’s also pride in what we’ve accomplished. James Gunn has written a moving story that is touching our hearts on set “she observed
Also in October of 2022, she said it was a “very sweet departure,” which we can only assume to be a positive final comment. The ‘new’ Gamora has joined the Ravagers since we last saw them, as confirmed by the Comic-Con trailer.
Yondu’s old friend and fellow Ravager Kraglin is back, played by Sean Gunn; Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha may also make a comeback, and she’s a big star.
“Even if I just scooch on for a second, I’d really enjoy it. I mean, I really hope to visit again “…she remarked. We saw her in the second film with Adam Warlock (more on him below), but she doesn’t appear to have returned.
The return of Sylvester Stallone’s Stakar suggests that the other Ravagers, including Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Mainframe (voiced by Miley Cyrus), and Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), will also appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Plot
Gunn has promised that the third film will be the “epic conclusion” to the story he started in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, though details about the film’s plot remain under wraps for the time being.
You could feel the excitement in the footage shown at Comic-Con, as this movie will be the last time you see this particular iteration of the team on screen. Is this Chris Pratt’s last chance to play Star-Lord? So far, he hasn’t ruled out a return to the MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunder did give us a glimpse into the Guardians’ future plans.
Gorr the God Butcher has been butchering gods all over the galaxy, and the Guardians and Thor have decided to respond to the cry for help. Star-Lord suggests dividing the group so that they can more efficiently travel the galaxy and aid those in need.

Since Gamora vanished after the big battle with Thanos, we expect that this plot point will be introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as a brief prelude to the movie’s main story, which is confirmed in the trailer to be the search for and ultimate reunion with Gamora.
The trailer also revealed that Rocket will play a larger role, which makes sense considering Gunn previously stated that he would have been most bummed out about not being able to complete Rocket’s story arc if he hadn’t been able to direct the third film.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Official Trailer
Unfortunately, as of the month of November 2022, the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that debuted at Comic-Con in July 2022 has not yet made its way online.
The first trailer for a Marvel film is usually released four months before the film’s release date, so we may have to wait until January 2023. It might not come out until February 2023 if they want to release it alongside Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.
