Chris Rock To Make History With Netflix First-Ever Live Performance: According to a press release from Netflix on Thursday, the 57-year-old comedian will be the first performer to do a live show on the site. More information about the unnamed comedy special’s worldwide streaming debut in early 2023 will be provided at a later date, according to a press statement.
Netflix’s vice president of stand-up and comedy formats, Robbie Praw, said in a statement, “Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and significant comic voices of our generation.” “We’re ecstatic that Chris Rock’s first live comedy show will be available to everyone on Netflix. We are incredibly grateful to Chris for continuing this tradition, and we know that this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us.”

The forthcoming Rock special will expand upon Netflix’s existing library of live comedy. More than 330 comedians performed at Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival, which took place at more than 35 locations across Los Angeles in May. According to a news release, the festival also featured the first ever live stand-up comedy show at Dodger Stadium.

Ahead of their upcoming tour together, Rock and Dave Chappelle surprised the audience last Wednesday at New York City’s Blue Note jazz club by joining pianist Robert Glasper onstage.
When Chappelle, 49, made a joke about Will Smith hitting Rock at this year’s Oscars, it made headlines during their co-headlining U.K. tour, which ended in September in Liverpool.
Chappelle reportedly said that Smith’s move was a “really bizarre choice” during his act. According to Deadline, he praised Rock for being genuine over the years and then claimed that Smith, at the age of 54, “did an impression of a perfect man for 30 years.”
Later, when Rock took the stage, he commented on the situation: “Can you tell me whether it f—-ing hurt? Hell yeah… The nicest joke I ever told got me hit by the motherf—-er.”
Recently, Chappelle attended a preview of Smith’s upcoming film Emancipation alongside Smith and other celebrities. There were a lot of famous people there, including Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Tyler Perry, and more. For example, Smith captioned an Instagram photo, “Unbelievable event!! We appreciate your support in seeing #Emancipation. I sincerely hope you did!”
