The history of anime spans many decades. Characters with different physical traits, mental traits, skill sets, and life experiences have been developed during this time. Fans all throughout the world have a deep and abiding affection for these characters.
Some of these anime characters are perfect examples of the adage “don’t judge a book by its cover” Most people assume they are women, however many of these characters are actually men.
1) Haku (Naruto)
Initially, Haku was shown in the Prologue – Land of Waves story arc. While wandering through the woods, Naruto first encountered the Ice Release user. When Naruto first saw Haku, he believed he was a girl and complimented him on his beauty.
Haku, realizing that Naruto was staring at him in confusion, told him that despite his feminine look, he was actually a male. When they first met Haku, many Naruto fans assumed he was a female. All of the people heard the news at once, including Naruto.
2) Astolfo (Fate/Apocrypha)
If you’re familiar with Fate/Apocrypha, you’ll recognize Astolfo as the Rider of Black. After the death of his former master, Celenike Icecolle Yggdmillennia, he made a new agreement with Sieg.
Many of the show’s regulars kept mistaking Astolfo for a female character. This is because he was summoned while actively dressing in adorable garb and concealing his gender. Many Fate series followers voiced their dismay at his outing as a male.
3) Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom)
Despite initial uncertainty, the entirety of Class 3-E in Assassination Classroom was aware that Nagisa Shiota was a male student. But they also recognized that he had feminine traits and sometimes took advantage of that.
In one mission, they used Nagisa’s gentle nature to draw in the enemy. So that they might get closer to their target, his friends disguised him up as a girl and sent him in. Despite skepticism, Nagisa’s approach was successful, and he was able to lure his prey into a corner.
4) Inosuke Hashibira (Demon Slayer)
Inosuke wore the Boar Mask in every early appearance he made in Demon Slayer. No one could see his face because of this, so they were taken aback when he took it off.
The season one reveal caught everyone off guard, both viewers and characters. Nobody was expecting him to have such a feminine appearance, given his long hair and soft features. Later on in the programme, some of the characters mistook Inosuke for a woman due of his feminine features.
5) Felix Argyle (Re: Zero)
Felix Argyle, aka Ferris, is the human beast who serves as Crusch Karsten’s knight. Most of the time, he’s depicted assisting Natsuki Subaru and his comrades in their fight against evil and in matters of diplomacy.
Subaru initially mistook Ferris for a female and remarked on how adorable he was. Subaru was misinformed about Ferris for a long time before the reality was made clear to him by Reinhard van Astrea. Subaru was taken aback by the situation, while Ferris seemed unfazed.
6) Luka Urushibira (Steins; Gate)
It is established early on in the Steins; Gate anime that Luka is good friends with both Mayuri Shiina and Rintaro Okabe. He takes pleasure in their company when he is not busy working or caring for the shrine.
Many admirers, and even Okabe, were shocked to learn that Luka is a boy because of his extraordinarily feminine appearance. But this only holds true for the vast majority of worldlines. Luka is a male character in the Steins; Gate and Beta universes, while she is a female character in some of the Alpha universes. Therefore, his inclusion here is more of a formality.
7) Muichiro Tokito (Demon Slayer)
Muichiro is an extraordinarily powerful Demon Slayer. He is so talented that at the age of 14, he was already the Mist Hashira.
Even though uncertainty was immediately addressed, many fans of the series thought Muichiro was a girl when they first met him. Since he has such a gentle countenance and extremely long hair, this comes as no surprise at all.
Since Mitsuri and Shinobu are the only female hashira we’ve met thus far, it would be wonderful to meet another one.
