What Is Vesper About?
An outstanding dystopian picture, Vesper is a loving homage to the genre’s illustrious past, both in terms of its story and its visual style, set against a post-apocalyptic landscape. The plot revolves around Vesper, a 13-year-old girl played by Raffiella Chapman, who meets a woman with a secret that could save the world after the destruction of Earth’s ecosystem.
She and her crippled father Darius (Richard Brake), who talks to her via a drone, must adapt to their harsh environment and use her biohacking skills to not just live, but thrive, while they look for a better tomorrow. Raffiella Chapman’s lead performance has been much-heralded, and rightfully so—no it’s easy feat for any actor, let alone a young actor, to carry an entire science fiction narrative.
When Is Vesper Coming Out?
The United States premiere is set for September 30, 2022, with international premieres to follow; the UK premiere is scheduled for October 21, 2022.
Who Is in Vesper?
While Vesper may not have any household names in its cast due to its acquisition by studios at film festivals, it doesn’t mean it’s short on skill. Audiences are less likely to feel alienated from the film’s setting if the film doesn’t cast a major Hollywood actor in the starring role. Raffiella Chapman (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) plays Vesper, a 13-year-old girl in the film.
She is joined by a number of notable actors, including Eddie Marsan (The World’s End) as Jonas, Edmund Dehn (You Need Help) as Elias, and Richard Brake (Doom) as Vesper’s father Darius. Actors with fewer established credits are given a chance to shine when the ensemble cast strikes a good mix between youth and experience. The film was mostly financed and produced in Lithuania, yet it has a big number of British actors.
