New Tales From The Borderland: Gearbox Studio Québec and 2K Games created and released New Tales from the Borderlands, a graphic adventure video game. The game, launched in October 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S, is a spin-off of the Borderlands series and a sequel to Tales from the Borderlands (2014–2015).
New Tales From The Borderlands Gameplay
Like Tales from the Borderlands, it’s a graphic adventure game in which you control the protagonist as they navigate the world, investigate what they find, participate in quick-time events, and make decisions that affect the story’s progression. Everyone in the cast is equipped with special technology. Fran can freeze foes with her hoverchair, and Anu can scan items with her high-tech specs. Octavio can access anyone’s social network and hack into their devices.

New Tales From The Borderlands Plot
About a year after the events of Borderlands 3, weapon manufacturer Tediore has invaded the planet Promethea. Anu, a selfless scientist, Octavio, Anu’s brother who wants to make it big, and Fran, the proprietor of a frozen yoghurt shop who uses a hoverchair, are the three playable protagonists in New Tales from the Borderlands. The player takes control of one of three heroes, each with their own set of aspirations and goals, and leads them into battle against Tediore agents, monsters, and criminals. The three companions need to coordinate their efforts as they search for a vault key that could unlock a treasure trove that could alter their lives forever.
New Tales From The Borderlands Development
Telltale Games, creators of the original Tales from the Borderlands, closed shop in 2018. The game was developed mostly at Gearbox’s Quebec studio, which opened in 2015. At the very least, the crew laboured on the project for 2.5 years. Due to a lack of knowledge in writing interactive stories that respond to player choices and decisions, Gearbox brought on board several key members of the original game’s development team to help them learn the ropes.
The studio also brought on board Lin Joyce, a doctoral candidate in interactive fiction, to serve as the game’s primary writer. While the game’s roster started out larger, many actors ultimately dropped out before they could finish their motion capture work. The game’s narrative had to be reworked to centre around the game’s three main characters, resulting in a more “intimate” story.
As the spiritual successor to Tales from the Borderlands, New Tales from the Borderlands was seen as a “standalone product” by Gearbox. It has a brand new cast of characters and a complete plot, so that players do not need to be familiar with the other games in the series to enjoy it. Rhys Strongfork, CEO of Atlas and one of the two protagonists from the original Tales, and his employee Lor (previously Lorelei) from Borderlands 3 are among the returning characters that will appear in the game.

It will be powered by Unreal Engine 4, and its visual style will be more akin to Borderlands 3 than the original Tales. Like Life Is Strange: True Colors, New Tales from the Borderlands will be released all at once rather than in instalments, but it will still follow the same episodic format as the original game.
In April 2022, at PAX East, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, revealed a sequel to Tales from the Borderlands. Gearbox and series publisher 2K revealed the game publicly at Gamescom in August 2022. Release dates for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are all slated for October 21, 2022. The original Tales was included in the game’s Deluxe Edition, and early purchasers got a souvenir, credits, and character skins for the game’s three main characters.
