House Passes Bipartisan Resolution Denouncing Socialism

On Thursday, the House adopted a mostly symbolic resolution that condemns the “horrors of socialism.” The majority of Democrats and every House Republican supported it. However, 86 Democrats abstained, and 14 others chose to cast a “present” vote.

The resolution, sponsored by Florida’s Cuban-American Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, is one of several messaging bills prepared by the new Republican majority because it is unlikely that any bipartisan legislation will reach the president’s desk given that opposing parties control each chamber of Congress.

Before stating that the United States is “founded on the belief in the sanctity of the individual, to which the collectivistic system of socialism in all of its forms is fundamentally and necessarily opposed,” the 3-page bill lists several facts, including death tolls from historical events like the Great Leap Forward in China.

Democrats’ reactions to the bill, primarily intended to split the Democratic caucus, varied before the vote. The moderate New Democrat Coalition’s leadership declared on Wednesday that “New Dems emphatically reject socialism — period” and urged House Republicans to “put aside political games.”

During a floor discussion on Wednesday, Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, the chair of the House Rules Committee, also criticized the measure.

“The resolution against socialism is worthless. It has no effect. It makes no difference, “said he. “Do you mean the public schools? Are we discussing roads? Do we refer to Social Security? Give me a break, please.”

Salazar defended the merits of the resolution in a brief interview with Insider on Wednesday in the Capitol. She declared, “I believe it to be the best resolution ever brought before the United States Congress.” “This philosophy is infiltrating our young through the media and academia.” Stay Tuned to Digitalnewsexpert.com for more updates.
