Pikmin 3 on Wii U, the latest installment in a cute but perhaps underappreciated series from Nintendo, continues this trend. Fortunately, it seems like Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch is being developed by Shigeru Miyamoto and the company.
What is Pikmin 4?
Since its inception on the Nintendo GameCube in December 2001, Pikmin has only received four mainline entries, which is quite a few compared to Nintendo’s other blockbuster franchises. Nothing has been confirmed, but we expect it to arrive on Nintendo Switch.
Pikmin 4 Release Date – When Is It Coming Out?
First revealed to Eurogamer in July 2015, when Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 “was very near to completion,” and most recently mentioned to Polygon at this year’s E3, it’s safe to conclude that Pikmin 4 is in production for Nintendo Switch. Despite the mystery surrounding the game’s scope, it’s expected to be a well-received addition to the Switch library.
Pikmin 4 Gameplay – What Can We Expect?
In previous games, players had to save their ship after crashing on an unknown planet and then recruit weird animals called Pikmin to assist them to explore and fix their ship. Each color of Pikmin had its own special skill set, from electrical conductivity to extraordinary strength to aquatic survival. Each conundrum required a one-of-a-kind answer, thus you were strongly advised to try anything that came to mind.
Of course, you have company on this strange foreign planet. Adorable but lethal beasts prowl the countryside, waiting to swoop down and devour your Pikmin while you watch helplessly. They can be defeated, though, especially if you have a sizable support group behind you.
Simple as can be, the plot follows bumbling spaceman Olimar as he tries to get back to Earth. The sequels were just as humorous and entertaining as the first ones, and they included a tonne of new playable characters.
Pikmin 4 wishlist – What we want to see
While still a lot of fun, Pikmin 3 failed to significantly broaden the scope of the series. The core gameplay remained largely same, though the Wii U version added some interesting twists. Pikmin 4 is expected to expand on this premise by introducing a more expansive area to explore in your quest to collect all the pieces of a ship.

Maybe Nintendo could include a new kind of Pikmin that can help you fly or move quickly around the world.
Greater variety of Pikmin
Having a swarm of Pikmin trailing you around has an odd allure, especially after you learn what these cute little animals are capable of. We’re glad that Pikmin 3 enhanced the diversity of Pikmin, but we’d love to see even more additions to the Pikmin family, as well as new riddles to unravel, in future installments.
The best parts of the series come from your forays into the unknown with the support of your extraterrestrial allies.
Improved combat
Pikmin is very much like a PC real-time strategy game. When fighting, you take charge of a squad of Pikmin and use their sheer numbers to your advantage.
The next installment(s) really need to step up their game and strengthen this area, which was already rather poor. If we could choose which Pikmin to utilize and how they would affect the situation, that may help add a lot more dimension.
