Aladdin 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot In 2022!

What is Aladdin 2’s Release Date?

There is currently no set release date for Aladdin 2, as production is still in its infancy. By analysing how Aladdin made it to the big screen, we may speculate on when this film might be released.

When Disney officially announced the film’s production in October 2016 (via Deadline), the script was already done and Ritchie had been signed to direct. After this point, it would be little over two and a half years until Aladdin hit theatres, and we expect that the time between the announcement of Aladdin 2 and its release will be relatively close to that time frame, for a few reasons.

First, even though the sequel doesn’t have a story or director locked in (not officially, anyhow), the picture commenced development well before the news was made. Back in August 2019, Dan Lin – a producer on the original film — told Syfy Wire that Disney brass were actively batting around ideas for the sequel.

At the time, Lin commented, “We’re looking at [what’s] the greatest route to go with these characters.” “The audience response has really moved us in thinking about where we might go with these storylines, and we feel like these characters have more adventures in store.”

Ultimately, it took the suits at the House of Mouse a few months of listening to pitches from many writing teams before they settled on one that they liked. While the 2016 adaptation of Aladdin had a solid story in place, the film’s casting proved to be a source of frustration for the studio; thankfully, that issue shouldn’t arise as much with the remake.

What Will Be the Plot of Aladdin 2?

Nonetheless, it’s more likely that Aladdin 2 will have an entirely new tale, the details of which remain a mystery for the time being. John Gatins and Andrea Berloff, both of whom have been nominated for an Academy Award for writing screenplays, will be working together for the first time on this project after Disney heard pitches from a number of other writers.

A screenwriter and filmmaker, Berloff earned her name with 2006’s World Trade Center and most recently with the criminal drama The Kitchen. Her screenplay for the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton about the groundbreaking rap group N.W.A. earned her a nomination for an Academy Award. Berloff is the most recent author to work on The Legend of Conan, the long-awaited sequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s groundbreaking 1982 film Conan the Barbarian and the 1984 film Conan the Destroyer.

Real Steel, Need for Speed (which was based on a video game), and Kong: Skull Island are just a few of the genre films to which Gatins has written or contributed. His biography Coach Carter (2005) and drama Flight (2012), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, demonstrate that he has a sure hand with material based on or inspired by true stories.
