As promised at E3 2019, the game’s release date of March 20, 2020, has arrived. The Nintendo Switch also features a dedicated “News” channel for the game. Bunny Day-themed content was the very first piece to be published.

A number of patches have been released since the game first came out, each of which addresses player feedback and adds new features. About once every two months, we release a major update that includes both new and previously released material.

In addition to any new features or content, each major update also brings back a number of previously featured characters and brings back events and features from New Leaf. The game’s developers frequently use the game’s official YouTube channel to announce the release of new content or patches.

It was announced in a video released to Nintendo’s YouTube channel on April 21, 2020, that version 1.2.0 would bring about new holiday activities, new island guests, and a new artworks area to the museum. Additional films announcing subsequent improvements were uploaded to their canonical YouTube channel.

Except for April Fool’s Day, which did not occur in 2020, 2021, or 2022, most of New Leaf’s “traditional” events were held during the first year of the game’s release.

Multiplayer

The game supports local and internet multiplayer sessions, allowing up to seven people to join at at once from various devices. There is also a local co-op mode in New Horizons, where up to eight players can create inhabitants for the same island, and four of those citizens can play together at once on a single console. There are no built-in parental restrictions for the Nintendo Switch, so if you want to play with other people online, you’ll need to sign up for an Online Membership.

Party Play

Players with separate Switch accounts can coexist on the same island, and when one player is actively engaged in the game, they can welcome their friends to join in via the Call Islander app on the NookPhone. In this kind of game, one person acts as “leader” while the others, who have joined forces, take on the role of “followers.” Leaders and followers can also switch roles by redirecting to the roles of leader and follower respectively.

Since the followers won’t have their own pockets, whatever they pick up will be placed in the recycling box in the Resident Services building and can be collected at a later time. As soon as the party game is over, whomever is in charge now takes over.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct 10.15.21 announced the upcoming release of Happy Home Paradise for New Horizons as a paid downloadable content pack.
