Women’s Golf Releases Schedule Updates In 2022-23!

DENTON – Before making the transition to The American in 2019, the two-time defending Conference USA champion UNT women’s golf team will compete in four autumn tournaments, primarily against Big 12 opponents, and four spring tournaments.

UNT, which has a lot of returning talent and some bright newcomers, will kick off the season at the Texas A&M Mo’Morial on September 20 and 21, then head to Norman, Oklahoma for the OU Schooner Fall Classic the following weekend. The Mean Green will end their autumn schedule in late October at TCU’s Battle at the Beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, following a dual match at Oral Roberts.

The C-USA Championship will be held at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where the Mean Green won their second consecutive conference title last year. The Mean Green will play four events this spring, excluding a dual match at Houston in January.

The UNT tournament, The Buzzy, will be held April 1-2 at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and will feature top competition alongside the UCF Challenge, the always-stout fields of the ICON Invitational in Houston, and the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona, and the fifth installment of the tournament, which will be held this year at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club.

Golf is unusual in that it allows teams to play in tournaments during the regular season, according to UNT’s head coach Michael Akers. “Though the Big 12 is our primary rival conference, we also face off against a number of teams from the SEC and Big 10 throughout the season. Our national standing is aided by our challenging timetable.”

Five-year seniors Audrey Tan and Patricia Sinolungan, who were both All-Conference USA performers last year, and junior Ellie Roth will be among the major players returning for the Mean Green, who have completed the last two seasons rated inside the top 50 nationally.

UNT head coach Michael Akers exclaimed, “I’m delighted to reveal another terrific tournament schedule.” “To be the best, I believe we must challenge ourselves against the best. Our objective for this season is to reach the national finals. Having two of our best players commit to another year with us is a huge blessing.

The moment I heard that the 2020 class of college athletes will be granted an extra year of eligibility, I questioned Audrey and Patty on whether or not they would play for the full five years. A unanimous “yes” came back from them. To send them off in style, I want to make this year as memorable as possible.”
