The Crown Season 6: The rumours have been confirmed! Netflix has officially announced that season six of The Crown will be the last. The announcement comes directly from the royal family. When the show first started, that was the plan, but eventually season five was set as the finale.
Thanks be to July 2020, when creator Peter Morgan had a change of heart, things are different now. The Crown Season 6 Potential Release Date
Without an official date from Netflix, we can only speculate that new episodes of The Crown season six will stream in sometime around November 2023.
Production on Season 6 was put on hold after the death of the Queen, so things could be different this time around.
While speaking with Deadline, writer Peter Morgan elaborated on this choice, saying: “The Crown is an ode to her, and I can offer nothing more deserving of response at this time than my silence and my respect. To show our respect, I think we will stop filming as well.”
In 2016, when production on The Crown first began, director Stephen Daldry hinted (via Deadline) that plans had already been made for the eventual death of the Queen: “We can only speculate as to when that time might be, but until then, it is only right that we pay our respects to the Queen. As a token of appreciation, it would be a nice gesture. Given her international prominence, it is the right thing to do.”The Crown season six could now premiere in December 2023 or even early 2024, taking into account all of this.

The Crown Season 6 Cast: Who’s In It?
Since this is an even-numbered season of The Crown, none of the series’ main actors will be replaced. So, here are the actors who should be back for Season 6:

• Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret
• Jonny Lee Miller as John Major
• Dominic West as Charles, Prince of Wales

Teen actor Rufus Kampa will play Prince William at age 15, and adult actor Ed McVey will take over for the rest of the series. William’s early courtship of Kate (played by Meg Bellamy) will be portrayed by McVey.
While no one has been confirmed for the role just yet, the new season will also feature Prince William’s older brother, Prince Harry. In October 2022, the production allegedly began casting for Harry, so we should hopefully have some casting updates soon.
The Crown Season 6 Plot: What Will Happen?
The final season “will be as tumultuous as it gets,” star Dominic West told Deadline after an early table read in August 2022. And he’s right: This is the time when Princess Diana’s tragic death will be shown on The Crown.
Even though Diana’s actual death won’t be shown on screen, one of Deadline’s sources claims there was an atmosphere of “anxiety behind the scenes” prior to filming that moment.

Nothing else about the plot has been revealed, but given the time period covered by this final season, we can anticipate seeing the following events: the Queen and Prince Philip’s golden wedding anniversary (1997), the deaths of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret (2002), the Queen’s Golden Jubilee (2002), Prince Charles and Camilla’s marriage (2005), and more glimpses of Tony Blair’s time in office.
