The Meta Quest 2 seems to have existed for a very long time. Since the VR headset has been available for a while, it underwent a mid-cycle rebranding, switching from the Oculus Quest 2 to the Meta Quest 2.
The hardware has started to exhibit symptoms of wear even though it has only been around for three years – it was released in late 2020. It’s, therefore, time for the headset’s replacement, the Meta Quest 3, to take over. The Quest 3 has been formally revealed, and here is all you need to know about it.
Meta Quest 3 Specs
Meta didn’t go into great depth on the Quest 3’s specifications. It only gave vague descriptions like “our highest resolution display and pancake optics” and a “next-generation Snapdragon chipset.” However, it disclosed that the ocular profile is 40% smaller and that the controllers incorporate TruTouch haptics. Because we don’t have much information yet, we’ll have to rely on leaks and interviews.
The resolution of the Quest 3 is thought to be 4,128 x 2,208 pixels or 2,064 x 2,208 pixels for each eye. That would represent a 30% increase over the Quest 2’s 1,920 x 1,832 pixels per eye. This time around, Meta may use uOLED screens, although we’ve also heard reports about OLED or mini-LED displays. These screens may also feature a 120Hz refresh rate, which the Quest 2 received in 2021.

Another thing we discovered from leaks is that the Qualcomm chip could be a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor. If you’re familiar with mobile CPUs, this chip is a variation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – Qualcomm’s latest microprocessor, included in the most powerful phones this year. This would be the most significant improvement, as the Quest 2 is powered by an XR2 Gen 1 chip, equivalent to a Snapdragon 865 chip – think Samsung Galaxy S20.
Finally, we know that 128GB will be one of the storage options. Regarding extra storage possibilities, speculations say that a 512GB variant is coming.
Meta Oculus Quest 3 Release Date
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, stated that the release of The Meta Quest 3 will take place in the fall of 27- 28 September 2023. We anticipate that the corporation will choose to release the Quest 3 in either October or November, putting it on the market just before the busy holiday shopping season begins.

Meta Quest 3 Price
Meta officially revealed the Quest 3 on June 1st, 2023, and its beginning price of $499. Although that’s a considerable price rise from the $399 Quest 2, we saw it coming. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously stated that a Quest 3 will be in the “price range of $300, $400, or $500, that zone,” but many sources have indicated that it will undoubtedly be more expensive than the Quest 2.
For comparison, the Quest 2 starts at $399 for the base model with 128GB of storage and goes up to $499 for the 256GB variant. With that in mind, the base-storage Quest 3 will be $499, with a higher-storage variation expected to be $599.
