Seth MacFarlane Shares The Latest Update On The Orville Season 4: Fans were confident that a fourth season of The Orville: New Horizons would be greenlit after the show’s stellar performance during its transition from Fox to Hulu and its subsequent arrival on Disney+. It’s been months since the end of Season 3, and fans are still unsure if a new season is on the way or if the House of Mouse has effectively cancelled the science fiction series with this extended bubble status.
Seth MacFarlane, the show’s creator, and star, recently provided an update on the status of a new season of The Orville, so there is that.
The Orville: New Horizons has not been cancelled, so that’s excellent news. Unfortunately, Seth MacFarlane himself lacks the depth and gravitas to offer anything more substantial or profound. Recently, he responded to a fan on Twitter who was concerned about Season 4 and stayed as optimistic as anybody else. His exact words were:

It was reported in 2020 that Hulu had allegedly rejected the possibility of a fourth season of The Orville before the show’s formal comeback, sparking rumors that the show would not return for a fifth. Several members of the cast and crew were interviewed by CinemaBlend throughout Season 3’s broadcast, and they all seemed to concur that the show’s renewal would ultimately depend on the show’s popularity with fans.
Also, the show’s director, Jon Cassar, thinks the transfer to Disney+ is a good thing because it will increase the show’s exposure to a broader audience of science fiction aficionados, which could lead to a higher likelihood of a Season 4 order. Similarly, Seth MacFarlane has long believed that the show can attract a massive audience if enough people try to tune in.
It’s been nearly three months since The Orville: New Horizons ended, but fans still don’t know what will happen next. The situation is further complicated because the penultimate episode of Season 3 established a foundation for everything that could happen in Season 4. Still, the final episode of the season worked very well as a series finale. The cast and crew don’t seem to be making things up when they say they don’t know what’s going on, so what’s taking so long to decide?

The fact that Seth MacFarlane and others have expressed interest in producing a fifth season of The Orville: New Horizons bodes well for the show, whenever that day may be. They’re probably reuniting for Peacock’s Ted adaptation because Scott Grimes told CinemaBlend he’s still interested in working with MacFarlane. If Disney gives the show the go-ahead, maybe the rest of the cast will return, but if they’re kept in the dark for too long, it’s hard to believe they won’t look for work elsewhere.
To increase its chances of being renewed for Season 4, I recommend giving The Orville: New Horizons a try on either Disney+ or with a paid Hulu membership. Hopefully, by the time the new year rolls around, fans will know what’s happening with the series.
