UT Police Arrest 3 Teenagers After Witnessing Drive-By Shooting

Police in Salt Lake City says that after seeing a drive-by gunshot on Saturday, they chased down the suspect car and detained three adolescents.

According to a news release from the police, no one was wounded during the gunfire or subsequent arrests.

Police say that one of the car’s passengers, a 14-year-old girl who wasn’t detained, was sent to the hospital after telling authorities that she was expecting a child. The possibility of the teen’s involvement is being looked into.

The incident, according to the police, happened on Saturday night after members of the Gang Unit of the Salt Lake City Police Department spotted a Nissan Maxima driving into an area in the northwest of the city and heard “several shots fired” from the car.

After leaving the scene, the driver of the Maxima led police on a car chase before colliding with another vehicle, according to the police.

Police said two male 16-year-olds were detained and taken to Salt Lake Valley Juvenile Detention Center. Charges against the two include unlawful firearm discharge, escape, and possession of a stolen firearm.

One of the youngsters had a stolen firearm on them, according to the police, and there was another handgun inside the vehicle.

A male youngster 15 years old who was detained and then released to his guardians may be charged similarly, according to the police.

No other information is being disclosed at this time, according to the police department.
