Due to a head injury, Josh Johnson, the fourth-stringer for San Francisco who took over for Brock Purdy when he was hurt in the first half, had to leave the game early in the third quarter. Nobody anticipated that he’d be able to play again.

Purdy was chosen with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and started every game for the team for the rest of the regular season and during the playoffs. Johnson was compelled to return to the game after leaving it in the first quarter due to a throwing elbow injury.

On the opening drive of the third quarter, he was tackled while attempting to throw a long pass to Deebo Samuel. He was struck, and his head hit the floor. He seemed to struggle to stand up, so he had to leave the game immediately.
Brock Purdy entered the game and passed the ball off before a punt. He was sent out again on the ensuing 49ers drive, but this time he only attempted one pass, a screen to Christian McCaffrey for three yards. Two times, he passed the ball.
Once more, San Francisco was compelled to punt. After an Eagles touchdown gave Philadelphia a 28-7 lead, Brock Purdy returned to the field.
Brock Purdy appeared to be the 49ers’ best option with Johnson out, even though he was injured. But things start to get interesting if he can’t play through the agony.
According to the Fox broadcast, McCaffrey would act as the team’s backup quarterback. The dynamic running back has made four attempts for 84 yards and two touchdowns in the NFL.
The team’s most likely backup to McCaffrey appears to be Kyle Juszczyk, a fullback who has never attempted a pass at the collegiate or NFL levels.
