During his tenure at the company, Hidetaka Miyazaki was the driving force behind some of FromSoftware’s greatest achievements; however, it looks like he won’t have the same level of involvement in Armored Core 6’s development.
Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, are just a few of the games that Miyazaki has directed for the studio, all of which have been critically and financially successful for the Japanese developer. He has also worked on two Armored Core games and will participate in the most recent one but in a much smaller way.
Clarifies Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Role in Armored
The most recent entry in FromSoftware’s long-running series is called Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and it is the first title since Armored Core: Verdict Day from 2013. The game will be set on the planet Rubicon, on the verge of destruction when humanity discovered and tried to harvest a mystery energy source.
Players in Armored Core 6 assume the character of an Armored Core mech pilot who works throughout Rubicon for the companies trying to reopen mining operations and the resistance groups trying to stop them. The game picks up about 50 years after this catastrophic occurrence. You also Meet The Terminal List Cast: Who Played Who In The Hit Movie?

In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki clarified his involvement with the game, stating that it will be the first game he is not the general director of since 2014’s Dark Souls 2.
He was instead the first game’s director, working “with several other people on those early stages of the project, including engineers, designers, and other people at the director level” and “production level.” The position, according to Miyazaki, allowed him and the team to “define the early concept of the game” before giving Masaru Yamamura the reins to take over as the principal director moving forward.
While Yamamura’s first game as director will be Armored Cored 6, he has worked on FromSoftware games since 2011’s Dark Souls as a map/event planner. We have covered the latest version of Pokemon Infinite Fusion—the Fan Game Essentials.

Before taking on greater responsibilities as a game designer on Bloodborne, a gameplay designer on Dark Souls 3, and a level designer on Dark Souls Remastered, he performed a similar function for the Dark Souls: Prepare to D!e edition. However, Yamamura’s most notable accomplishment to date was on the 2019 game Sekiro, where he served as the primary game designer.
After serving as the game director for Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, Miyazaki taking on a smaller role with Armored Core 6 is a striking change of pace. One may argue that the studio is working on another project that will take all of his focus, whether it be a potential Elden Ring sequel or something else entirely new.
While it’s unclear how Yamamura will manage to serve as Armored Core 6’s director, some players might find comfort in the fact that he spent more than a decade working for Miyazaki.
