What Is Berserk About?
Guts is a lone swordsman who wanders the dangerous Midlands after being raised in a harsh and twisted reality. Guts bonds with the mercenary outfit Band of the Hawk after meeting their leader, Griffith. Guts chooses to leave the band after they’ve been on the road together for quite some time.
To get back at Guts for abandoning him, Griffith seems to have a string of bad luck occur to him, culminating in a phenomenon known as The Eclipse in which he gives up his entire band so that he can be resurrected as an evil monster called Femto. Griffith, in his guise as Femto, becomes the embodiment of evil, committing horrible atrocities as if he were no longer human.

Events in Berserk unfold when a traumatised Guts, who just narrowly escaped The Eclipse, is branded with a mark that continually attracts demons to him. Guts pledges retribution against Griffith despite confronting swarms of demons every day; no cost or risk seems too high for him.
