Meghan’s royal nickname, “King Charles,” is a fitting honorific for her. Despite tensions with the rest of the royal family, King Charles III has given his new daughter-in-law a fitting title: Duchess of Sussex.
Entertainment Tonight reports that Prince Charles nicknamed his prospective daughter-in-law “Tungsten” because of her strength and perseverance, citing Katie Nicholl’s new book The New Royals. The Royal Society of Chemistry notes that tungsten is often alloyed with other metals to increase its strength.
When the Duchess of Sussex, then age 41, spoke at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, some members of the royal family took notice. Obviously, this was much before her May 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Meghan’s regal nick moniker from Prince Charles.

The metal was chosen, as Meyers explained at the time because it is “tough and unbending,” qualities that reflect well on the Archetypes podcast host. “It’s a bit of a weird one, but I think he respects her,” the expert said, adding that he thinks she has managed the media spotlight well.
The death of the queen on September 8 brought the royal family closer together, both physically and emotionally, despite Meghan and Harry’s (both 38) separation from the rest of the family since they stepped down from key positions in 2020.
On September 9, during his first speech as king, Charles acknowledged the Archewell founders, who are the parents of 3-year-old son Archie and 16-month-old daughter Lilibet Diana. The king’s statement, “I also want to send my love for Harry and Meghan, as they continue to establish their life overseas,” was an “olive branch,” according to royal expert Gareth Russell, who spoke exclusively to Us Weekly.
