When Does The Invitation Come Out?
On August 26, 2022, theatres across the country will begin showing The Invitation. There are no current plans for a digital release of the film; it will debut only in cinemas.
What Is The Invitation About?
If you plan on seeing The Invitation in theatres, which is inspired (though tangentially) by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, you might want to stock up on garlic bread beforehand. A young American named Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) loses her mother and chooses to take a DNA test to see if she has any living relatives. She encounters her long-lost cousin Oliver (Hugh Skinner) in a restaurant. She is invited to a wedding in England, where he hopes she will finally meet the rest of his sister’s family.
The aristocratic Walter (Thomas Doherty) and his magnificent estate are a sight for sore eyes when Evie first arrives. During her stay, he pursues her romantically, and she finds himself attracted to him. As the wedding day approaches, she continues to ask numerous questions about the bride and groom, only to receive evasive and cryptic responses. This family, she realises as she investigates further, is hiding a dark secret from her.
It turns out that Evie is the one getting married, and Walter is the lucky one chosen to be by her. As her hosts get more violent and threatening, his charm transforms into menace. If Evie wants to get it through this nightmare alive, she’ll have to resort to violent means.
Who’s in the Cast of The Invitation?
Evie, the main character, will be portrayed by Nathalie Emmanuel. While her portrayal as Missandei on Game of Thrones has brought her the most attention, she has also appeared in other Fast and Furious films, including the upcoming Fast X, where she plays the part of Ramsey. In The Invitation, she’ll be playing an American who happens to be English. Thomas Doherty will play Walter, an intriguing and enticing suitor for Evie. Gossip Girl’s Max Wolfe and Descendants 2 and 3’s Harry Hook were both portrayed by Doherty.
One of the relatives Evie encounters in the manor house is named Viktoria, and Stephanie Corneliussen will play the role. In the preview, she acts strangely when Evie accidentally slashes her finger while clipping her nails. She has appeared on Mr. Robot and Legion, among others. Hugh Skinner (Fleabag) and Alana Boden round out the cast, along with Sean Pertwee (best known as Alfred Pennyworth on Gotham) (I Am Elizabeth Smart).
Is There a Trailer For The Invitation?
Absolutely! On June 24, 2022, the theatrical premiere of The Black Phone was accompanied by the debut of a trailer for the film. Check out the teaser trailer down below:
As you can see from the video, we learn more about Evie and her motivations for wanting to take the DNA test and see if she has any more family members. Not only does this preview the film’s bloody content, but it also reveals that Walter and the other guests at his home are nothing more than bloodsucking undead. In spite of the trailer’s lack of a clear identification of the characters as vampires, it’s clear from the presence of fangs, blood-drinking, and a stake in the chest that this is, in fact, a vampire film.
