Tell Me Lies Season 2: The first season of Tell Me Lies, which was filled with shady college relationship drama, has concluded, but the question remains whether or not Hulu will order a second season. A series based on the novel by Carola Lovering and written by Meaghan Oppenheimer and executive produced by Emma Roberts, Tell Me Lies chronicles the ups and downs of the relationship between Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) over the course of eight years.
A large portion of the first season of Tell Me Lies takes place during Lucy’s first year at Baird College in New York in 2007–2008, but the season is bookended by the wedding of her friends Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook) in 2015. This takes place years after Lucy’s relationship with Stephen ended. In spite of this, Lucy and Stephen continue to be attracted to one another, and their freshman year of college romance becomes embroiled in a web of lies involving the murder of Lucy’s roommate Macy (Lily McInerny), as well as Macy’s friends Pippa (Sonia Mena), Wrigley (Spencer House), and Wrigley’s younger brother Drew. Stephen’s attraction to his ex-girlfriend, Diana, persists despite his strong feelings for Lucy (Alicia Crowder).
Tell Me Lies Season 2 Release Date
With a second season order, Tell Me Lies could return sooner than expected. The first season of Tell Me Lies didn’t even premiere on Hulu until September of that same year, having only started filming in February. There’s a chance that Hulu will air the second season of Tell Me Lies in the fall of 2023 if the show is renewed for a second season and production begins at the beginning of the year.

Tell Me Lies Season 2 Cast & Story Detail
Grace Van Patten and Jackson White’s characters, Lucy and Stephen, will return for season 2 of Tell Me Lies, as they both appear in the wedding bookend scenes that take place in 2015. Equally convincing would be Spencer House as Wrigley, Catherine Missal as Brie, Branden Cook as Evan, Sonia Mena as Pippa, and Natalee Linez as Lydia. Season 2 of Tell Me Lies would most likely take place during Lucy’s second year at Baird College, making it Stephen’s final year of school. Stephen’s decision to leave Lucy and reunite with Diana would have repercussions, as new lies and toxic relationships would emerge in season 2 of Tell Me Lies.
Tell Me Lies Season 2 Plot
Since it seems like Season 1 doesn’t go beyond that time period, other than the brief flash ahead to Bree’s wedding, a future season may follow Lucy and Stephen’s tumultuous lives beyond college.
In addition, the second-to-last episode establishes various storylines that will continue in the final episode. After Lucy leaves a letter in the dean’s office reading “Ask Drew Wrigley about the night Macy Campbell died,” campus police begin looking into Drew’s whereabouts on that fateful evening. The note Lucy wrote to shield Stephen sets off a chain reaction.
Drew’s paranoia causes him to fight with his brother during a party, and Wrigley breaks his leg when he falls off the balcony. After Wrigley accuses Pippa of being the letter’s author, the two of them stop their relationship. Then Pippa has a talk with Lucy, implying that she isn’t rational when it comes to Stephen and that Pippa can no longer trust her.

Additionally, Stephen drives out to the spot where Macy was killed. He breaks down in tears for a moment, giving off the impression that he knows more than he is letting on about what happened that night. He seems content by the episode’s finale, which suggests he may be okay with letting Drew take the fall for whatever he did. Wrigley gets drunk at Bree’s wedding in the pilot after someone mentions his brother, so we may assume the worst for Drew.
And now, at long last, Lucy has the nerve to face CJ about her infidelity with Lucy’s dying father. They come very close to making up, but then Lucy gets mad when Stephen shows there, and it’s evident that CJ doesn’t like Stephen. Lucy erupts and runs off when CJ admits that she is back with the man she cheated with. It doesn’t look good for their future together since Lucy has become more impulsive and unreliable since hanging out with Stephen, as evidenced by both this and their earlier argument while he was over at Pippa’s house.
Tell Me Lies Season 1 Review
Story proper resumes in earnest on Lucy’s first day of college at Baird in 2007 when Stephen, then a senior, negs her at a frat party. This flash forward to their future was a long time coming. Anxiety would follow this for a long time.
Fans still being confused about Stephen isn’t necessarily a good sign, but it does indicate that the show is functioning normally. Tell Me Lies stands out from other dramas because of its keen understanding of the psychology driving the central relationship, which puts the audience in the same position as protagonist Lucy, who spends years wriggling on his hook before finally breaking free.
