Sony Pictures has enjoyed tremendous success with the Jumanji series, and a fourth picture is currently in development.
Jumanji has become one of Sony Pictures’ most profitable properties after Spider-Man following the success of the first two films, which grossed close to a billion worldwide.
Ruby Roundhouse star Karen Gillan told Collider that “nobody has spoken to me” and that she “doesn’t know anything” about a sequel over two years after the critical and financial triumph of 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level.
The Next Level was released barely two years after the 2017 release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, so the news may sound scary, but it does not rule out the possibility of a Jumanji 4 film.
Pandemic and star schedules likely hampered production, as Seven Bucks Production president Hiram Garcia previously indicated conversations are “100 percent happening.”.
As a bonus, Jumanji: The Next Level’s post-credits scene hinted at an intriguing plot surprise for a potential third film in the Jumanji franchise.
In the hopes of not having to wait as long as Alan Parrish from the first film, here is all we know about Jumanji 4 thus far.
Jumanji 4 Release Date
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released in December 2017 and Jumanji: The Next Level was released in December 2019. There was a two-year gap between the two releases.
In December 2022, Jumanji 4 might appear in theatres if Sony continues on this path.
The coronavirus pandemic delays the picture by a year, from December 2021 to December 2022, after director Jake Kasdan revealed the film had been put on hold in April of 2020 because of it.
Sony does not appear to be planning any sequel at this time, as Karen Gillan said in July 2021 that she has not received any updates on Jumanji 4.
“I have no idea what the next [Jumanji] will be about.” “According to Gillan, “I haven’t heard from anyone, so I’m not sure. My guess is they’ll make one, but I’m not sure how they’ll approach it. But I’d want to see another film made since it’s so much fun,” he continues.
Filming for Jumanji: The Next Level began in January 2019 and was completed in May 2019, just in time for a December 2019 release date.
Jumanji 4 Cast
Besides Johnson’s Bravestone, the film’s other main characters – Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Kevin Hart), and Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon (Jack Black) – are expected to return.
As a result, their real-life adolescent counterparts, played by Madison Iseman, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, and Ser’Darius Blain, should be making a comeback.
Another possibility is that Nick Jonas (Jefferson McDonough), Awkwafina (Ming Fleetfoot), and Colin Hanks (Jake) will return to the Jumanji franchise (Alex Vreeke).
Bebe Neuwirth, who had a brief cameo appearance in the third Jumanji film, could make another appearance as Nora Shepherd. Don’t discount it!
Jumanji 4 Plot
Spencer’s mother (Marin Hinkle) and a heating mechanic were drawn into the game at the end of Jumanji: The Next Level as some of the game’s creatures was unleashed into the real world.
It’s possible that instead of the characters being sucked back into the video game jungle, the jungle will come to them, with modern-day Jumanji-style fights between youths and modern-day apes. Although this has not been confirmed, there is room for avatars to have escaped the game.

According to both director Kasdan and Dwayne Johnson, the real-world identity of The Next Level’s villain Jurgen the Brutal will be revealed as an avatar in the sequel.
