Making your way to the dance floor, albeit via a different medium. After more than a decade on ABC, Dancing With the Stars will return for a 31st season on Disney+ in the fall of 2022.
When the news was first announced in April 2022, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution chairman Kareem Daniel said, “The show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for Dancing with the Stars while continuing to expand our demographic reach.”
According to Walt Disney Chairman of Entertainment Dana Walden, DWTS has brought “so much joy to millions of viewers” during its time on the air, and this is a great opportunity to introduce the show to a whole new generation of fans on Disney+, as ABC is significantly expanding its unscripted slate.
Despite the unexpected change, the DWTS judges and pros wasted no time in spreading their enthusiasm for the new format among viewers. It’s a thrilling new period for the programme, and for the entire streaming industry. West Coast residents can now cast their ballots in near-real time. I can’t wait to see what shows Disney+ has in store; in the meantime, I’ve been fantasising about seamless set changes and costume transitions between scenes without interrupting the action for commercials.
In May of 2022, Cheryl Burke revealed in an interview with Us Weekly that she had been using steroids. I’m glad that our longtime fans will have something to look forward to while also giving us a chance to attract new ones; I also believe it’s terrific that new people will be able to learn about us. Think of what this means for Disney Night on Dancing With the Stars!
Later that month, pro-turned-judge Derek Hough shared those thoughts, saying to Entertainment Tonight that he was first perplexed by the revelation but was “very, very enthusiastic about it” after 10 seconds. That seems to be the general direction things are headed. His next sentence was, “I’m pleased about that too because it’s more chance for more shows, more dances, more innovation.”
Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribiero, winner of Season 19, will host the new season, both of whom are moving to Disney+. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum said in a statement in July 2022, “Dancing with the Stars has been such a significant part of my life for so many years, and I am excited to officially re-join this tight-knit family as cohost.” My longtime connection with Tyra is something I’m hoping will ring true with Disney+ subscribers everywhere as the new season premieres.
The supermodel was quick to express her delight in her new cohost after the announcement. Banks said in a statement, “I’ve known Alfonso since I was 19 years old and he always puts a smile on my face everytime I see him.” It makes me happy to have a lifelong buddy who is also so much fun as a cohost. What a blast it will be to engage in lively verbal sparring with him in person!

The Format Will Change Slightly
It’s a little bit different,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba told E! News in June 2022. “Real-time voting in every state would make a big difference, in my opinion. To my mind, the scripts may include some surprises that end up becoming huge hits with the audience. Not everyone welcomes novelty, but I believe most people can adjust.”
Peta Murgatroyd hinted that the lack of ads on Disney+ might have an impact on DWTS the following month. She told Us, “It’s going to be a longer programme since there are no advertising in between anymore, so we’ve gotta fill a lot of space up.” “additionally several time slots As for me, that’s rather appealing.”
The Judges And Pros Are On Board
Dancers like Burke and Gleb Savchenko were thrilled with the show’s decision to relocate. “The native Russian told Us in April 2022, “I was incredibly excited when I got the news.” The Disney episodes are always a lot of fun to film, and we’re excited to be joining Disney+. The news that the show had been renewed for two more seasons was fantastic. I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new season.”

The official DWTS Instagram account dropped a hint in August 2022 that the show was “making changes” to Disney+. Hosts Banks and Ribiero made a joke about being “in an entirely other ballroom” when Peter Pan’s Tinkerbell soared by in animation. “I’m so excited to see the stars explore a whole new galaxy!” As the scene shifted to six ballroom pros dressed in gold costumes over a purple backdrop, Banks joked, making another Disney reference.
Val Chmerkovskiy Plans to Come Back
In June 2022, Jenna Johnson told Us that she and her husband, who had previously intimated that season 30 would be his last, intended to return to battle for the Mirrorball trophy once more. “So, the irony is that we don’t know if we’re coming back until right before the season [starts], “This is what she had said at the time. “However, I can say with certainty that Val is looking forward to returning for a second season, and that he may be in the greatest physical shape of his life. I’m a little stunned, but I guess that’s OK. I think he’s pumped up for the upcoming season, so keep an eye out.
Jenna Johnson Is Not a ‘DWTS’ Season 31 Pro
In August of 2022, the dancer announced that she would be missing season 31 because to her pregnancy. She shared the news on Instagram, writing, “I’m obviously very sorry that I won’t be dancing this season BUT I am sooo excited to watch and support everyone on…” In particular, my husband! In addition, I can’t wait to make a fresh start, find new motivation, and enter the upcoming season at the top of my game creatively.
