Bridgerton Season 3: Release Date Status, Spoilers, Cast, Trailer, Plot and Everything You Need to Know!

A third and fourth season of the blockbuster Netflix series, as well as a Queen Charlotte spin-off, pleased Bridgerton’s loyal following.

However, the following series will diverge from the order of the books, focusing on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s romance in the fourth novel, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.

Before this season’s premiere, Bridgerton had been structured in a similar way to the Julia Quinn romance books on which the show was based.

Daphne and the Duke of Hastings’ love story was the inspiration for Season 1, while the Viscount Bridgerton and Kate Sharma affair in Season 2 was drawn from The Viscount and I, the sequel to the first Bridgerton book.

Jess Brownell, who is taking over from Chris Van Dusen as showrunner for the upcoming series, explained the choice to center season 3 on Penelope and Colin: “Colin and Penelope’s time has come, in my opinion. We’ve grown attached to both of these performers since we’ve seen them onscreen since season one.”

She went on to say: “We’ve gotten to know them as individuals… At times, Colin comes close to realizing Penelope has affection for him, but he doesn’t quite make it to the other side yet. Our goal was to make that dynamic part of their season instead of letting it float by. The timing couldn’t have been better.”

For the second season of Bridgerton, Netflix has made significant changes to the books, with Anthony (Jonathan Bailey in the Bridgerton cast) getting engaged to Edwina Sharma before ending up with her older sister, Kate (Edwina Sharma in season 1).

We know for sure that Bailey and Simone Ashley (Kate Sharma) will return for the third season, with the latter leaving Sex Education to focus on the historical drama.

Nonetheless, Ruby Stokes (Enola Holmes, Anatomy of a Scandal) will be replaced by Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes, Anatomy of a Scandal) as Francesca Bridgerton. Stokes’ departure follows Deadline’s report that he will star in another Netflix series called Lockwood & Co.

Aside from the new actress playing Francesca, the showrunner Chris Van Dusen is no longer on board and has been replaced by Jess Brownell (Inventing Anna, Scandal).

At the Radio Times Covers Party in London this year, Bridgerton actor Andoh spoke glowingly of both Van Dusen and Brownell.

Bridgerton Season 3 Potential Release Date: When’s It Coming?

At this time, there is no word on when season three will be released, but we do know that filming will begin this summer.

In addition, the production of Season 4 has been confirmed! As a result, London’s Regency-era aristocracy is ripe for further scandal. We are now working on a prequel about Queen Charlotte and Violet Bridgerton, Lady Danbury, and their earlier years, which will be a continuation of the storyline.

Lady Whistledown herself wrote a letter to Netflix announcing the news, which read: “Honored Ton members, it appears that we have an important announcement to make. Bridgerton will appear in the third and fourth seasons. More ink will be needed by this author…”

At the time, Shonda Rhimes, the show’s executive producer, published a statement: “With this two-season renewal, Netflix has shown a lot of faith in our work, and I’m grateful to have such collaboration and innovative partners as Netflix. Continuing to share Bridgerton with a global audience is something that Betsy [Beers] and I are very excited about ” (via People).

We have no idea when the show will return, which makes it difficult to compare it to other Netflix originals. Season one premiered on December 25, 2020, while season two premiered on March 25, 2022.

They may theoretically have a full year to film and then a few months for post-production before season three is released in March 2023.

An online casting request for extras and personnel indicates that the show will be filming from June 2022 through late January of that year, which is to this information. Even so, it’s not conclusive because this hasn’t been upheld by the courts.

When we learn more, we’ll be sure to pass it along to you.

Bridgerton Season 3 Cast: Who Will Be in It?

The following fan-favorite cast members have been confirmed for Bridgerton season 3:

  • Jonathan Bailey as Anthony, Viscount Bridgerton
  • Simone Ashley as Kathani “Kate” (née Sharma), Viscountess Bridgerton
  • Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington
  • Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
  • Hannah Dodd as Francesca Bridgerton

Ashley verified the happy news to Deadline.

“We’ll be back!” they exclaimed. After a few months of dating, Kate and Anthony are just getting started. As the showrunner for season 3, we have the incredible Jess Brownell.

“Everything’s just getting started, in my opinion. Let go a little more and have fun together in season three, and I’d like to see Kate do the same. It’s something they both deserve, in my opinion.

Kate is in command of the household now, and she’s got huge boots to put on,” Ashley promised viewers in season 3. I have faith in her abilities.

For sure, I’d like to maintain Kate’s softness and sensitivity, and she can share that with Anthony. I can’t wait for her to have a place of her own and a family of her own. I can’t wait to watch her grow up.”

Season 3 will center on Coughlan and Newton’s romance, which was confirmed along with their return.

“Like Lady Whistledown, I’ve been holding quite a big secret for quite a long time… but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope’s Story,” Coughlan stated on Instagram.

The part of Francesca Bridgerton, previously played by Ruby Stokes, will be filled by Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes, Anatomy of a Scandal).

We’re expecting the rest of the cast to be back for Bridgerton season 3 unless something changes.

  • Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury
  • Lorraine Ashbourne as Mrs. Varley
  • Harriet Cains as Philippa Featherington
  • Bessie Carter as Prudence Featherington
  • Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Basset (née Bridgerton), Duchess of Hastings
  • Ruth Gemmell as Violet, Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton
  • Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton
  • Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
  • Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte
  • Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton
  • Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton
  • Polly Walker as Portia, Baroness Featherington
  • Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich
  • Calam Lynch as Theo Sharpe
  • Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown

Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton will likely take the stage in season 4 rather than the upcoming third season if the following season adapts Julia Quinn’s third book.

Sophie Beckett, the title character’s love interest in the novel An Offer from a Gentleman, is still a possibility for the role. Since the two initially meet at a ball, they only reunite two years later.

If the series decides to adapt his story, we may see this character again, but this time with a twist on her storyline.

According to Deadline, Jonathan Bailey, who portrayed Anthony Bridgerton in season 1, will return as the show’s lead star with Phoebe Dynevor, who played the show’s star Daphne in season 1.

Ahead of season 2, Bailey and Simone Ashley talked about returning for a third season with and other members of the media, with Bailey saying: “We’ll have to see if we’re invited.”

Ashley went on to say: “Kate and Anthony’s love story should continue in season 3, and I’d love to see them play post-wedding and enjoy their honeymoon romance. More horseback riding, too.”

It has been revealed that Kate’s sister Edwina Charithra Chandran will not appear in the third season of the show, saying: I don’t know “It’s clear that Edwina is not a Bridgerton, which is why the show is about a family we know exists in the “Bridgerverse,” as the show’s creators like to call it. In any case, I’m pleased to have such an important role to play in this season.”

“I want Edwina to find love, but I think there is a lot more essential tale to be told first—and then love may happen—which is one of self-discovery,” she previously told The Hollywood Reporter.”

She went on to say: “For the time being, I’m hoping Edwina has a lot of fun and adventure ahead of her.

What is the Bridgerton Season Three Plot?

Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington, aka Lady Whistledown) was announced as the subject of season three in May 2022, and the former ELLE UK cover star later talked out about whether she’s prepared to record intimate sex scenes in the third season.

“I’m going to have to be!” she exclaimed on E! News Daily Pop.

Although she conceded that it was “terrifying” to take the helm in season two, she said she had “known for a long time” and had time to process the concept.

Since I’ve known for two weeks into filming season 2, I’ve had plenty of time to adjust.

‘However, last night, when they were saying, “The news is starting to emerge. If you want to,” I said, “then go ahead. I’m too afraid to even try.” Make it real for yourself by uttering your thoughts aloud

Season three of FYSEE Space will focus on Penelope’s relationship with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), according to her appearance on the ATAS panel for the Netflix show’s premiere night on May 15.

“Like Lady Whistledown, I have been holding a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season three is Colin and Penelope’s love story,” she said in a statement to People.

Since the second week of season two, I’ve kept it a secret.’ It’s the first time I’ve ever spoken it in public like this.’

This was in response to a prior interview with the same news organization in which she discussed the future of Penelope.

As she put it at the time, Penelope “I suppose has a bit more time to wait” before she enters into that.”

“She’s still very much the wallflower,’ I can confidently say.” “She’s going for it like a boss lady.”

Penelope and Colin have had a connection from the beginning of season one, but it has been subtle.

Colin was overheard saying to his buddies in the last season that he’d ‘never conceive of courting’ her, even if the flames between them were still smoldering.

Season three’s focus on Viscount Anthony Bridgerton’s brother Benedict Bridgerton would have been the logical next step if the show’s success was to be tied to the book series.

It was earlier reported that a season focusing on Benedict and Sophie will include Lady Whisteldown’s aid.

Who Will Bridgerton Season 3 Be About?

After months of anticipation, we finally know who will be the star of the third season.

Season 3 would revolve around Benedict, as long as the show followed the chronological order of Julia Quinn’s novels.

However, as described above, it has been confirmed that the next third season will place Penelope and Colin squarely in the spotlight.

In a previous interview, Shonda Rhimes teased that the third season would deviate from the show’s original material.

“We’re not exactly going in order—but we’re going to see each of the siblings and their tales,” she told E! Entertainment.

In addition, Kate Sharma’s Simone Ashley earlier appeared to hint that ‘Polin’ (Penelope and Colin) will be the key relationship in the upcoming season of the series.

For sure, she told E! News, “there will be a post-marriage Kanthony narrative.” For both Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, I’m eager to see how well they perform, but I’m also eager to play around with the Anthony and Kate storyline now that they’re in a loving relationship.

Additionally, the show’s creator, Chris Van Dusen, already admitted to and other media outlets that the plot of the show does not closely follow the events of the novel.

No matter what happens in Season 3 or which sibling the show chooses to center on (if any), the future of the series is still up in the air, according to the actor.

Bridgerton Season 3 Trailer: When Can I See It?

Until then! Even so, the second season premiered just a few months ago, and it’s still soaring. As a result, we’ll have to be a little more patient.

Pre-release trailers are standard practice on Netflix, and they often appear roughly a month before the show premieres. Since filming has not yet begun, we still have some time.

Do not doubt for a moment, my dear reader, that Lady Whistledown will keep us informed as and when she pleases. As soon as she does, we’ll be sure to pass on the message.
