Avatar 2 Release Date
Avatar 2, which has been postponed multiple times, will eventually be released to theatres on December 16, 2022. That’s not only 13 years after the first Avatar, but also 8 years after the sequel was supposed to be out in 2014. Let’s hope this anticipation is well founded.

The Avatar 2 cast is made up of newbies and returning actors alike.
Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully, a former human soldier who permanently became a member of the Na’avi. He’s accompanied by Zoe Saldaña, who is returned as Neytiri. The two fell in love in the first movie. CCH Pounder plays Mo’at, Neytiri’s mother.
Jake and Neytiri will have children this time round, too. Jamie Flatters is their firstborn son Neteyam, Britain Dalton is their second son Lo’ak, and Trinity Bliss is Tuktirey, their youngest child. Jack Champion is Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human born on Pandora who is adopted by Jake and Neytiri.
Sigourney Weaver is also back, and she’s playing none other than Kiri, the daughter of Jake and Neytiri. Her former role, Dr. Grace Augustine, perished in the first film. Her role in the sequel will also include digging below, with a behind the scenes picture showing the performer totally immersed.

Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, also died in the previous film and returns. Even if he is now a Na’avi, he will continue to be a villain. Given the character’s antipathy toward the blue aliens, that’s a big surprise. Lang has said, regarding his personality, “I’m not going to claim, ‘No, he’s absolutely the same.'” “I find him to be an extremely intriguing protagonist, and I imagine that [director] Jim Cameron shares my interest in following his story wherever it may lead. What kind of writer and filmmaker does he become as a result of creating this character? As an actor, where does this training take me?”
Kate Winslet is joining the cast in the role of Ronal, a free-diving member of the Metkayina clan. Winslet gushed to The Hollywood Reporter about the experience of learning to free-dive for her role in Avatar, calling it “amazing” (opens in new tab). Insane, right? I held my breath for seven minutes and fourteen seconds. Another photo from the scene shows Winslet submerged in water while wearing weights to protect her from floating to the surface.
Avatar 2 Plot
The official plot summary for Avatar 2 reads as follows: “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family [Jake, Neytiri, and their children], the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.” (Credit to ComicBook.com; opens in a new tab)
As the title suggests, the family is pivotal to the plot. To paraphrase what Landau said to Total Film, “I think the story of Avatar 2, and the quality of the tale,” universal issues that are bigger than any one genre. “And if you stop to consider it, the concept of family is the most universal of all. The Sully family is the emotional core of all of our sequels. How can parents negotiate the dynamics of keeping their children safe?”
The trouble foretold in the synopsis will come in the shape of the RDA mining operation’s return to Pandora. In response, Jake, Neytiri, and their kids swim to “what is considered as a safe haven,” the reef. And when you reach the reef, Landau continued, “there is a clan we name the Metkayina.” “The Sully family has been uprooted from their familiar rainforest habitat. They end up being the ones who seem most out of place. They find themselves in a cultural and literal wilderness.”
All the photographs from the set and the breathtaking trailer reveal that the underwater lands will play a significant role in the plot of the sequel. However, the future of certain pivotal people is murkier. Since Signourney Weaver’s character died at the end of the previous film, we know she’ll be back, but we have no idea what her role will be or why. It’s unclear whether she’s portraying the same character or someone altogether different.
Not only may she possibly come back from the grave, but so could other characters. Matt Gerald’s Corporal Lyle Wainfleet and Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch return as well. Exactly what their return means for Sully and his loved ones who are also RDA members remains a mystery.
Avatar 2 Trailer
First shown at CinemaCon, the Avatar 2 trailer was released to the public in conjunction with Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness. Only in theatres at first, it finally made its way to the internet.
In addition to the CGI magic that brings the Na’avi and Pandora to life, the movie also features breathtaking aquatic and terrestrial scenery. The footage leaves room for concern; not only do we see the wicked RDA (that’s Resources Development Administration), but we also see them causing difficulties for everyone. Even if Sully and his loved ones are present, we still know very little about the story.
