When asked if she was now the “Queen of Christmas” due to her numerous upcoming holiday projects, Parton said that title belonged to Mariah Carey. These projects include the reissue of her Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas and a new film, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas.

Despite having several upcoming Christmas-themed projects (including the reissue of her Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas and a new film, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas), the media outlet asked Parton if she now considered herself the “Queen of Christmas.” Parton responded by saying that the title belonged to another artist: Mariah Carey.

While there is no argument over whether or not Parton should be called the “Granny Clause,” the title of “Queen of Christmas” has been up for grabs for quite some time. Carey, 52 at the time, attempted to trademark “Queen of Christmas” as a way to officially promote herself as the sole “Queen of Christmas,” but her application was rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in March 2021.
Elizabeth Chan and Darlene Love, two other singers who claim to have a connection to the “Queen of Christmas” title, challenged Carey’s claim, and Chan explained her choice to seek legal action and her opposition to Carey’s usage of the moniker in an interview with Variety.
Chan remarked, “Christmas has come before any of us on earth, and hopefully will be around well after any of us on earth.” “And I believe passionately that no one person should forever dominate anything associated with Christmas the way that Mariah does. Simply put, you shouldn’t act in that way. Everyone should celebrate Christmas. It’s not something you should try to keep to yourself; rather, you should share it.”
No one, however, can prevent Mimi’s party. She received the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) Diamond Award for her No. 1 single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” last year, making it the first holiday single to ever receive this honor. There is always a spike in sales around the winter holidays, even though the song was released all the way back in 1994.
