The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, has hinted at a release date for GTA 6. There’s no mistaking Strauss Zelnick’s hint, but it’s also a little ambiguous. Still, GTA fans have been clamoring for more information on GTA 6 and wondering if they will ever get to play the long-awaited GTA 5 sequel. As a result, they may be playing it sooner rather than later.
Zelnick was recently questioned by CNBC when the next Grand Theft Auto game would be released. Of course, Zelnick did not provide specifics, but he did strongly suggest that it will be released sometime around fiscal year 2025, which runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
“We leave the announcement of upcoming titles to our labels, and we’ve said we have a very robust pipeline of titles and a great outlook for fiscal 2025, where we’ve reiterated our belief that we’ll generate about $8 billion in net bookings,” Zelnick explained.
Given the direct nature of the query, this is a rather strong signal. Furthermore, only one game, GTA 6, has the potential to generate $8 billion in net bookings upon its release. The question now is when within this time frame. According to current rumors, the game will be released later this year.
If this occurs, a fall in 2024 appears to be a plausible expectation. GTA 5 was first launched in September of 2013, as you may recall. Red Dead Redemption 2 was also released in the fall by Rockstar Games. In other words, fall 2024 appears to be a safe bet. However, the aforementioned pair of games, the developer’s most recent, have also been postponed. If this happens again, a 2025 release date appears more feasible.

For the time being, all we have is supposition. While Zelnick clearly suggests that GTA 6 will be released during this time frame, he does not commit to this. And, of course, even if this is the plan, plans in game development change all the time.
